IRON CHEF (Fe) COMPETITION
Then idea behind this project was for us the students to be able to learn chemistry in cooking food & food itself. Before actually going into the whole cooking with a dish with a group, we learnd a lot on the chemistry behind different kind of things that happen when you cook. We read articles and we even got to do a fun experiment. The teacher bought us miracle berries, which are these pills that you eat and they change your taste buds. So when you eat something sour like a lime, it becomes really sweet. It was actually really interesting to learn why it did that. After we learned all about the chemistry behind food, we got the groups that we were going to be working with, and we got our basket with the five secret ingredients. The five ingredients were Shrimp, Butternut Squash, Black Beans, Cilantro, and Hot Cheetos. We brainstormed ideas, and then decided that we were going to be making Hot cheeto coated shrimp tacos with pico de gallo and a butternut squash and black beans sauce. We got a whole hour to make our dish, so we could practice our dish before the day of the festival. Also so we could film the video of how we cooked our dish to show it to the judges.
MODERNIST CUISINE POSTER
In the poster, we had to write about the science behind the food that we made, which for my group was the shrimp tacos. We talked about Capsaicin because of the spice in the Hot Cheetos. We also talked about why the Butternut Squash softens when you put it in boiling water, and much mor things. We had to come up with ten things that we could talk about in our dish. There were way more things going on in the dish than I expected.
STEP BY STEP VIDEO
In this video we showed the step by step on what we did to make our dish. We had to make this video because on the day of the festival we were going to be showing the video to the judges so they know what we did to make our dish (since they aren't going to be there watching us make the food). I feel really proud about the vidoe because it actually turned out way better then I expected. Our group really tried to show everything we were doing to make the dish.
REFLECTION
In this project, I learned how to cook way better, because let's just say I wasn't the best at cooking anything. Even the little detailed helped me a lot to be able to cook better which was awesome because I know that I am going to be using all the imformation that I learned in this projet in real life, which is something that I am really happy about. I also learned to think more outside the box/ more creativ because we did a lot of different kind of challenges, like the 10 dollar dish, or even the actual dish that we were making for the judges. I am really proud of my group because we worked really well together as a whole. I think that we splited the job equally and no one was doing more work than others. I would not change anything because I am actually really pround of our work and I know that we put a lot of effort into everything in the project and the dish, which I am really proud.
