Humans of South Bay
Each student had to interview someone and they had to record it with your phone, or recording device. You also had to take a picture of the person you interviewed. Using our recording device and a taking a photo of the interviewee, we were able to learn a story from someone in our community. In “ HIstory” they always teach the same stories over and over, but never take the time to learn stories of people in our community, and that’s why we are making this project.
We are going to be performing this project in the “ Dia de los Muertos” exhibition, because the point of Dia de los Muertos is to celebrate the people that have passed, and the point of Humans of South Bay is to celebrate the stories that we have never heard before while we are still here.
Process
There was a lot of things that we did to prepare me for the interview. One of the things would be actually practicing with someone and it was actually really help full because it was a way for me to kind of get new questions and think of what to do if I get stuck on the interview. Another thing that we did was watch the teacher do the interview with another person, and that also helped me a lot because I could see what was their body language and kind of get and idea on how to get your interviewee feel comfortable.
On the day of my interview, I tried to be as comfortable as possible because I didn't know how long it would take. I started my interview at 6:00 because I wanted to have time before to get prepared and just relax for a bit. At 6:00 we started the interview and it went really good. I did my interview in my house because the person who I was interviewing was my dad.

Who is Luis Gutierrez?
Luis Gutierrez was born in Tijuana Baja Califormia, in 1965. He met the love of her life at age 12, and they married each other at age 25. They had two beautiful children, which one of them is me & the other is my brother Enrique.
I interviewed my dad because I knew stories about him, but I didn't remember any tough's moments in his life, and I know that everyone has to have a moment in life where it was really tough for you. In the interview, we talked about the time that my dad got "Facial Paralysis". Facial Paralysis is when there is a damage on one of the nerves in your brain and that causes your face to get weak.
I choose to take a picture of half the face of my dad because it resemblance that the interview is about facial paralysis.
Reflection Questions
Why did you interview the person you interviewed?
I interviewed my dad because I wanted to hear his side of his story and how he felt, because my mom told me the story about when his face got paralyzed but I never really heard it from him.
What did you learn about them that you didn’t know before?
I learn a lot of stuff, because I don't really talk about these kind of stuff with my dad , so getting to talk to him about it was a really awesome experience.
How did they feel about being interviewed?
I think he wasn't super excited but he still enjoyed it, and I could tell by his face movements. He was interested in telling me the story, i don't think he felt bored or anything like that.
Who else do you know who you want to devote time to sitting down and talking to like this?
I think its a long shot because I don't think she would want to talk about it but my grandma. I think she went through a really really rough time when he was younger and I would like to be able to talk to her about it and I was to her the stories from her experience because she was the one who went though it.
